Don’t believe naysayers when they tell you that romance and humor somehow ends after divorce. Instead, take good advice from Hughes William Thompson’s The Divorce Party as it will tell you that there are always plenty of reasons to celebrate singlehood and end up discovering the true ‘you’ in the process.

The Divorce Party Movie Poster

In the film, Nate (Thomas Cocquerel) is an uninspired architect who is forced into doing things solo after his marriage with Susan (Claire Holt) disintegrates abruptly after five years. Displaced in his comfort zone which has everything to do with Susan, Nate turns to his charming friend Katie (Matilda Anna Ingrid Lutz) who helps him organize a divorce party.

While where all of these lead to is pretty much predictable, you would still want to take the bumpy ride as Nate’s journey towards re-entering the world of singles takes him into a new path filled with guffaws and in some turns, is quite touching.

The gags are pretty much original (particularly the drinking game and makeover scenes), and the characters and use of locations help out a lot. Make no mistake about pegging this rom-com as just another one of your typical breakup tales. The drama blends in effectively with the comedy giving you an enjoyable peek into a man’s misery and eventual redemption. Cocquerel lets you in on his quagmire early on and gives you a bird’s eye view of his subsequent transformation.

Also, don’t miss out on some great lessons which the film can give you particularly on how life can be difficult at times, but celebrating yourself is the first step to getting back on track. The Divorce Party is a fun and unique film that tells you how to overcome misery, and in the process, be able to tell the world that you are ready for anything else it may throw at you. For that alone, there is enough reason to party on with this film.
