The following is a review of the movie “Ready Player One” by Marc Primo.

Modern cinema is becoming increasingly infatuated with virtual reality action and settings. Aside from the already fictional stories being dramatized on screen, it adds another layer of fantasy and all its possibilities into the proceedings.

Ready Player One, which is an adaptation of the Young Adult novel thought up by Ernest Cline, is a non-stop thrill-ride through a visually spectacular Virtual Reality gaming ride set amid a universe of frantic activity and an abundance of pop culture reference. There's enough for the geeks to be picking apart for months in this production. Set in the year 2045, the film envisions a world where virtual Reality has outstripped real life as the preferred way of experiencing life for a majority of the population. The physical world is represented as a murky, run down, overpopulated Favela-style dump as a result of numerous calamities such as the 'bandwidth wars'. The world of virtual reality, on the other hand, is the land of plenty and infinite possibility that has become a refuge for the masses who find life in the real world unbearable. We follow the exploits of Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) as he embarks on a quest to retrieve an 'Easter Egg' left in the virtual reality world by its late creator James Halliday (Mark Rylance) that would grant its discoverer the power to control everything in the spectacular VR world. He has some competition, though, in the form of the ill-willed corporate creep, Sorrento (Ben Mendelsohn). The movie allows director Steven Spielberg to stretch his creative legs, as he is so fond of doing, and the story-telling and visual buffet will give its intended audience - young adults - a movie with the ability to satisfy their post-ironic wits and new-age toughie sensibilities. Ready Player One is sure to give you a near-to-real virtual reality

experience.
