Alita Battle Angel Review

The science fiction frontier has reached another milestone in the live-action anime Alita: Battle Angel. With acclaimed director James Cameron (The Terminator, Titanic, Avatar) on board as producer and writer, we have on our screens animation that looks just as good as reality itself.

Robert Rodriguez’s Alita: Battle Angel does not sacrifice time, meticulous care, and attention to detail in rendering impressive visual effects throughout the film’s entirety. The Hollywood adaptation of the celebrated cyberpunk Manga series from Yukito Kishiro has been in production since early 2000 taking over 15 years to make.

The details are stunning and the story is one that calls out for a cult following. Though having a pretty complex plot for the regular viewer, Alita: Battle Angel hits the right nails on its heads in terms of thrills and excitement.

The story revolves around Alita (Rosa Salazar), a young cybergirl who is granted a new mechanical body by the eccentric Dr. Dyson Ido (Christoph Waltz) and founds herself immensely involved in the sport of Motorball, slowly finding her significance in the dystopian world.

Science fiction fans will appreciate how quickly the film will take them to Alita’s world with fast-paced action and accurate camerawork that help draw out layers of its plot effectively. The art direction in the film’s Motorball fights is a great highlight that offers never before seen sequences.

As part of its efforts to drum up the movie, reports have circulated prior to the release of the film saying that the people behind Avatar will be behind the film’s animation technology. The result is a masterful rendering that feels human that you can see as small a detail as sweat glistening from the characters faces.

Rodriguez’s graceful direction gives Alita: Battle Angel the degree of imagination that Hollywood owes its viewers. And with Cameron hinting at a trilogy, fans can only pray that they see more of this great visual ride in the coming years.
